The MTN Foundation has awarded over N114 million in scholarships to 380 students, including those with visual impairments, for the 2024/2025 academic session across Nigerian universities.
The MTN Foundation has announced the disbursement of over N114 million in scholarships to 380 students, including those with visual impairments, for the 2024/2025 academic session across various Nigerian universities. This initiative, part of the MTN Foundation Scholarship program, aims to promote academic excellence and support the education of visually impaired students in higher education.
During the award and alumni induction ceremony held at Cubana Hall in Enugu, MTN Foundation’s Director, Dennis Okoro, highlighted the uniqueness of the scholarship. He emphasized that the program is designed for intelligent and resilient students who demonstrate a commitment to their studies.
“Unlike a bursary, we provide scholarships to our beneficiaries until they graduate,” Okoro explained. He noted the highly competitive nature of the scholarship, stating that recipients must maintain a consistent Grade Point Average (GPA) each year to renew their awards.
One notable feature of the MTN scholarship is the requirement for students to complete up to 10 online certificate courses related to their fields of study. Graduates will also receive digital literacy training to enhance their skills further, integrating them into the MTN Foundation community.
Okoro reassured recipients that their selection was based solely on merit, stating, “Anyone who is a beneficiary of this scholarship merited it. There’s no issue of influence of any kind.”
