Nasarawa State University Collaborates with US University on Justice Reform
Nasarawa State University, Keffi, hosted US scholars to strengthen legal education and share insights on restorative justice.
Nasarawa State University, Keffi, recently hosted a significant academic exchange event with the University of California College of Law, San Francisco. The event, held from July 1-2, 2024, was part of a collaborative program funded by the United States Embassy in Abuja.

The visit featured Professor Jessica Vapnek, Associate Dean and Professor of Practice from the University of California College of Law, and Demarris R. Evans, a Senior Assistant District Attorney in Alameda County, California. Their visit included faculty interactions, a training of trainers (TOT) for lecturers, workshops, class observations, and a public lecture on "Plea Bargaining and Sentencing Guidelines in the Context of Restorative Justice: The US Experience."

Key attendees at the public lecture included the Attorney General of Nasarawa State, a representative of the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, three High Court judges from Nasarawa State, a representative of the Emir of Keffi, eight magistrates from various districts, and lawyers from the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) branches in Lafia and Keffi. The event was also graced by principal officers of Nasarawa State University, including the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellors.

The exchange program highlighted the importance of enhancing academic collaborations and research opportunities between Nigerian and American universities. The Nigerian participants expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership and their commitment to implementing the insights gained from the US scholars.
