The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI) in Ebonyi State, has announced plans to penalize any members who fail to comply with its ongoing nationwide strike.

The union’s national body, alongside the Joint Action Committee (JAC) — which includes NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) — initiated an indefinite strike on Monday. This action comes after the Federal Government failed to address demands for payment of withheld salaries dating back four months.

In a statement released on Tuesday, AE-FUNAI NASU Chairman, Chibuike Igwe, confirmed that the union has achieved full compliance with the strike directive across the university. “We have engaged our members thoroughly, starting from the initial national protest on July 17 to this current indefinite strike. We stand in solidarity with the national headquarters to push our demands,” Igwe stated.

Igwe added that NASU has implemented a dedicated monitoring team to ensure adherence to the strike action and will sanction any members who violate it. “Defaulters of the strike will face penalties, as mandated by the union. Our goal is clear: we need our salaries, as we have rightfully earned them. Until the Federal Government honors this obligation, there is no going back to work,” he said.

The AE-FUNAI chapter reaffirmed its commitment to the JAC’s demands, underscoring that their strike will persist until the Federal Government addresses the withheld salaries issue, ensuring what Igwe described as “the benefit of our members.”
