NASU, SSANU Suspend Strike After Federal Government Agrees to Settle Withheld Salaries

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has announced a temporary suspension of its indefinite strike, effective Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The suspension follows recent commitments from the Federal Government to address withheld salaries and other demands of union members.

The strike, initiated on October 28, 2024, was called in response to what the unions described as government inaction on their longstanding concerns. Since the strike commenced, JAC leadership has engaged in multiple discussions with senior government officials, including the Minister of Education, Minister of Finance, and representatives from the Department of State Services. As a result, the government has agreed to release one month of withheld salaries by the end of October, with an additional month scheduled for release by the end of November 2024.
