The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is remodeling its Foreign Post Graduate Scholarship scheme to incorporate a tracking system that will monitor scholars' progress after graduation. The initiative aims to build a comprehensive database of over 2,900 scholars who have benefited from the scheme over the past 14 years, enabling a thorough assessment of the scholarship's impact on human capacity development in the Niger Delta region.
As part of the improvements, the scholarship scheme will now prioritize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses to better align with the technological needs of the Niger Delta. The shift reflects NDDC's goal to equip scholars with the skills necessary to drive technological advancements and development in the region.
NDDC Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, made these remarks during the NDDC Monitoring Team's visit to Coventry University in the United Kingdom, where they assessed the progress of current scholars. Dr. Ogbuku emphasized that this strategic update would help the commission evaluate the scheme's long-term benefits, ensuring that the investment in education directly contributes to the region's growth and development.
