In a recent meeting, Mr. Sawyerr, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), detailed the organization’s mission to provide financial support for students at accredited tertiary institutions across Nigeria. He highlighted that NELFUND offers interest-free loans to cover tuition fees and living expenses, aimed at easing financial pressures on students and their families.
Mr. Sawyerr addressed various aspects of the program, including the application process, repayment terms, and criteria for institutional onboarding, which had previously raised questions among stakeholders. His explanations clarified the program’s objectives and reinforced NELFUND’s commitment to supporting students.
A key point of the discussion was the need for institutional cooperation to ensure efficient processing of loan applications. Mr. Sawyerr urged educational institutions to submit student data promptly to facilitate the smooth implementation of the loan scheme. Many institutions in Kebbi State responded positively, pledging their support.
Mr. Sawyerr also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his role in the establishment of NELFUND, emphasizing that the initiative reflects the administration’s dedication to education and youth empowerment.
The meeting served as a platform for further collaboration between NELFUND and the Kebbi State Government. Alhaji Isa Abubakar Tugga, Kebbi State’s Commissioner for Higher Education, expressed gratitude for NELFUND’s efforts and committed to ensuring that the loan program benefits all eligible students in the state.
As the meeting concluded, Mr. Sawyerr assured stakeholders that NELFUND would continue to work closely with Kebbi State and its institutions, with plans to return soon to present cheques to benefiting students and institutions.
