Distancing themselves from the impersonator, NELFUND took to their social media page to make a public statement regarding the fake account.

In their announcement, NELFUND stated, “It has come to our attention that this account is impersonating the Managing Director/CEO of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr. Please be advised that this account is not authorized, endorsed, or affiliated with NELFUND or Mr Sawyerr in any way.”
Further clarifying the situation, NELFUND added, “Please be reminded that the MD/CEO of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr has no affiliation with this account or the individual running it. We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to kindly report this account.”
