In a groundbreaking achievement, 34-year-old Nigerian actress Omowunmi Dada has been appointed as a resident professor at the prestigious University of Michigan in the United States. The announcement comes as part of her designation as one of the 2023 Global Artists in Residence at the African Studies Center (ASC) at the University of Michigan.

Omowunmi Dada, known for her versatile talents as an actress, voice-over artist, presenter, and model, expressed her honor at being part of the Global Artist in Residence program. This initiative, established through a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education and administered by ASC in collaboration with the Department of Afro-American and African Studies (DAAS), recognizes her contribution to the field.

The program, overseen by the University's ASC and DAAS, will see Omowunmi working closely with DAAS language instructors to develop audio-visual materials for teaching African languages. She is set to engage with the broader University of Michigan campus community, as well as connect with elementary, middle, and high school students and teachers in Southeast Michigan.

Omowunmi, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, is poised to make presentations about Nollywood and African filmmaking at various events organized in collaboration with U-M school departments and local organizations. Her role extends beyond the university, aiming to educate the next generation about Nigerian culture.
