Nigerian Air Force Personnel Honoured For Returning €37,000 At Kano Airport

Bashir Umar, an indigene of Adamawa State and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, became a national hero after returning €37,000 he found at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, to its rightful owner on 7 July 2019.

His honesty earned him several remarkable rewards and recognitions.

He received a Special Double Promotion from Aircraftman to Corporal, a rank that would normally take about 10 years to attain.

He was also presented with a Letter of Commendation by the Chief of Air Staff in recognition of his exemplary integrity.

In a historic first, he became the only non-commissioned officer in Nigerian Air Force history to have an aircraft convey him and his parents to Abuja for his decoration ceremony.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari commended his action as "uncommon, patriotic and exemplary."

The Kano State Government also honoured him for his honesty and patriotism.

In addition, businessman Aliko Dangote gifted him a house in Abuja in appreciation of his integrity.

Bashir Umar's story remains one of Nigeria's finest examples of honesty, proving that integrity is always rewarded.
