The members of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, Edo State chapter on 13th March 2024 paid a courtesy visit to Edo State University Uzairue.

The members who came from the Auchi branch were led by Engr. Tofar Abubakar, second Vice President of the Society, the delegation was warmly received by the University’s Management and some faculty members.

The visit aimed to familiarize with the terrain and seek permission to use the University’s auditorium for its forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).

During the interactive session with the Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, and other important officials of the University, the discussion was based on how Mining should be introduced into the University as a course for students to foster partnership between the industry and Academia.

The group was given a tour of the University’s Engineering facilities which include the state-of-the-art Laboratories, Workshops and E-Library. Others include the University’s aesthetic Auditorium, Medical Laboratories, plus the Television and Radio station of the institution.

Speaking after the tour, Engr. Tofar Abubakar, who extolled the Vice-Chancellor for the decent culture created in the University, expressed their admiration for the university’s commitment for providing quality engineering environment, conducive for learning in theories and practicals.

Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor in his response, emphasized the University’s readiness to work with the group and give assistance wherever they can.

He however expressed gratitude for NSME’s interest in using the Institution’s Auditorium and assured the delegation of the commencement of the Mining Programme by the next session which will add positively to the reputation of the University as the first University in the South-South to offer Mining Engineering.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of both certificate of appreciation and an award of excellence to the Vice-Chancellor for his dedication and good work.
