Nile University of Nigeria Students Win International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition

A team of three female law students from Nile University of Nigeria has emerged national champions at the 2025 International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The competition, which began in April and concluded with a grand finale on July 30, brought together over 30 top universities across the country.

The Nile University team — Bukola Okunlola, Erite Ugboma, and Rejoice Wilson  demonstrated exceptional legal expertise, persuasive advocacy, and strong teamwork throughout the rigorous rounds of the competition. The trio was coached by Prof. Fatima Alkali, Dean of the Faculty of Law, who played a central role in mentoring the team to victory.

One of the standout moments of the tournament was Erite Ugboma’s recognition as Best Oralist, a prestigious individual award celebrating eloquence and legal acumen.

With this national victory, the team will now go on to represent Nigeria at the All-Africa International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya in November 2025. Their participation, along with other logistics, will be fully sponsored by the ICRC.

Speaking on the victory, Prof. Alkali lauded the students for their commitment and hard work, noting that their success is a testament to the strength of Nile University’s legal education and mentorship framework.
