The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof Charles Anosike, announced the agency's university network programme aimed at providing early weather and climate warnings to farmers. This initiative, highlighted during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NiMet and Greenfield University in Kaduna State, seeks to enhance agricultural yield by ensuring farmers are equipped with timely weather information.
Prof Anosike emphasized NiMet's commitment to reaching Nigerian farmers through various avenues to safeguard citizens against climate and weather-related disasters. The collaboration with Greenfield University aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on food security through proactive measures against adverse weather conditions.

In response, Prof John Aiyedogbon, Vice Chancellor of Greenfield University, commended NiMet's presentation of the 2024 seasonal climate prediction and stressed its importance in sector preparedness, particularly in agriculture. He expressed the university's commitment to fostering a robust relationship with NiMet and leveraging its network to support meteorology development within its sphere of influence.
The MoU signing, witnessed by NiMet's Director of Legal Services, Barr. Shola Gabriel, and other agency staff, signifies a collaborative effort to enhance weather forecasting capabilities and agricultural resilience in Nigeria.
