A groundbreaking conference on investigative journalism in Northern Nigeria has concluded at North-Eastern University, Gombe, with renowned journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas as the guest of honor.
The event, organized in partnership with WikkiTimes and Ghana's Tiger Eye Foundation, brought together leading voices in journalism, academia, and law to discuss the role of investigative reporting in driving societal reform.
Dr. Sani Jauro, Pro-Chancellor and Founder of North-Eastern University, Gombe, chaired the conference, praising the university's commitment to academic excellence and innovation in journalism. He highlighted Anas's fearless and transformative approach to investigative journalism, which has inspired journalists worldwide and led to positive changes in societies.
The conference featured a keynote address by Prof. Umaru A. Pate, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere and President of the Nigerian Society of Broadcasters. Anas delivered the lead paper, "Radical Approach to Journalism: Case Studies of Undercover Reporting," drawing from his groundbreaking investigations to highlight the power of fearless journalism in exposing corruption and driving social change.
Other notable sessions included a presentation by Barrister SG Idris on "Investigative Journalism and the Nigerian Law," and a panel discussion exploring the role of investigative journalism in promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
The conference also witnessed the commissioning of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas Multimedia Content Creation & Innovation Centre at North-Eastern University, Gombe. The centre is set to become a hub for training and innovation in multimedia journalism.
The event concluded with a visit by Anas to the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III CFR, who proudly highlighted the university's achievements and contributions to the development of humanity.
