At the ceremony in Abuja, the Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, praised the graduates for their resilience and determination in pursuing higher education while in custody.
According to a statement by the Command Public Relations Officer, Samson Duza, the graduates completed various NOUN programmes, including two Master’s Degrees in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution. The remaining four received Bachelor’s Degrees in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, Political Science, Criminology, and Security Studies.
Represented by the Deputy Controller General, Dr. Amos Kupan, Nwakuche emphasized that education transforms lives and equips inmates with the skills needed for lawful livelihoods after release. “Incarceration is not a dead end but an opportunity for growth and reintegration,” he noted.
The ceremony underscored NOUN’s commitment to inclusive and accessible education and the NCoS focus on rehabilitation, demonstrating that learning opportunities within correctional facilities can create pathways for personal and societal development.
