NOUN VC Intensifies Exam Marking Oversight, Resolves Operational Issues at Uyo Centre

Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, has intensified monitoring of the 2026 1st semester examination marking and Computer-Based Examinations across NOUN study centres.

During a working visit to Uyo Study Centre, Prof. Uduma received a briefing from Deputy Director, Directorate of Examinations and Assessment, Dr. Nnenna Chukwuma. The report showed Enugu Study Centre leading in marking performance, with Uyo closely behind.

A major challenge raised was a shortage of Nursing markers at Uyo, as many were engaged in professional practical examinations. Following the VC’s intervention, additional Nursing markers reported for duty, increasing capacity to clear over 5,000 Nursing scripts.

Uyo Centre is currently processing more than 72,000 scripts from South-South study centres. In response, Prof. Uduma approved extended marking time for high-volume faculties: Management Sciences, Computing, Health Sciences, and Education. Lower-load faculties, including Arts and Agricultural Sciences, were directed to conclude by Monday, 8 June 2026.

The VC also inspected the CBE hall and noted inadequate lighting. Centre management attributed it to high costs of running the main generator. Prof. Uduma assured staff of management’s commitment to resolving infrastructure issues affecting teaching, learning, and assessment.

Staff commended his proactive, field-based supervision, saying it inspires confidence and speeds up solutions.

Since assuming office, Prof. Uduma has maintained direct oversight at study centres to ensure policies deliver measurable outcomes. The Uyo visit reaffirms NOUN’s commitment to excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
