NPMCN Conducts Postgraduate Accreditation Exercise at YSU Teaching Hospital
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital today successfully hosted an accreditation exercise conducted by a team from the Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN).
The exercise was aimed at assessing the department’s facilities, manpower, academic training standards, and overall capacity to deliver quality postgraduate medical education and specialised healthcare services.
The accreditation team was led by the Faculty Chairman, Professor Ayotunde Oluwole. Other members of the delegation included the Faculty Secretary, Professor Odidika Umeora; the immediate past President of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Professor Peter Ebeigbe; and Professor Terrumum Swende.

The team was received by the Chief Medical Director of Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Professor Baba Waru Goni, alongside members of the hospital’s top management committee. The visit further reflected the institution’s commitment to excellence in medical education, research, and patient-centred healthcare delivery.
During the exercise, the accreditation team conducted a comprehensive assessment of the department through detailed inspections of available facilities, interactions with members of staff and resident doctors, as well as a thorough review of clinical equipment, training resources, and the learning environment. The process forms part of the regulatory framework established to ensure compliance with recognised standards in postgraduate medical training and specialist healthcare service delivery.
Members of staff expressed appreciation to the visiting team for the professional and meticulous assessment process and reaffirmed their dedication to continuous institutional advancement, academic distinction, ethical clinical practice, and quality healthcare delivery.
Management of the hospital expressed confidence in the department’s preparedness and sustained commitment to maintaining internationally recognised standards in postgraduate medical training and specialised healthcare services, while remaining optimistic about a favourable outcome from the accreditation exercise.
