NSCDC Arrests Varsity Student and Accomplices for Electrical Cable Vandalism in Katsina
The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime during preliminary investigations, admitting to entering block 'D' on June 4, 2024, and removing the cables from the ceiling. He was apprehended while attempting to escape with the stolen cables and handed over to the hostel's security.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State has apprehended Gaddafi Sani, a suspected 400-level student at a tertiary institution in the state, for allegedly vandalizing electrical appliances.
According to DSC Buhari Hamisu, the State Public Relations Officer, the arrest was made possible through improved collaboration between NSCDC and Umar Musa Yar'Adua University authorities. The suspect was caught in Kuringafa Kofar Fada, Kafur Local Government Area.

SP Hamisu stated during a press briefing at the NSCDC headquarters in Katsina that the command's special anti-vandal team arrested the suspect after he allegedly vandalized and removed electrical wires from a room in block 'D' of the institution's Male Hostel.

SP Hamisu disclosed that prior to the suspect's arrest, the institution had reported three similar cases of vandalism. Items recovered from the suspect included scissors, a small flashlight, five rolls of 2.5 mm electrical cables, and eighteen rolls of 1.0 mm electrical cables.
Additionally, NSCDC operatives apprehended Maaruf Yusuf, 26, of Makudawa quarters, Katsina LGA, for theft and vandalism of public infrastructure. Further investigations revealed that Yusuf had been repeatedly stealing and selling streetlight cables from the same location.The suspects are currently in custody and will face charges in court upon completion of investigations.
