The Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani, has made a passionate plea to prospective corps members not to undertake night journeys as they head to the orientation camps. In a release made available to the media in Akure, the state capital, Mrs. Ani emphasized the importance of safety and the value NYSC places on the lives and welfare of its corps members.

More than 1600 prospective corps members are expected to converge at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko for the three-week orientation exercise.Mrs. Ani revealed that the NYSC management has launched an extensive campaign to discourage night journeys, aiming to ensure the safety and well-being of corps members. She urged parents, guardians, and road unions to discourage young individuals mobilized for national service from traveling after 6 pm, particularly during the extended hours of the night.

She stressed that this life-saving information is not only for prospective corps members but is equally important for all serving corps members. Sensitization efforts have been carried out through the Local Government Inspectors in their respective council areas to raise awareness about the risks associated with night journeys.

Mrs. Ani reported that the NYSC Ondo State management has engaged with road unions, including the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), to urge them to take action against their members who engage in unnecessary night journeys that jeopardize the lives of corps members.
