OAU Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso, Passes Away at 64

Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has died at the age of 64. He passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, after a brief illness and successful surgery. 

Prof. Oyeweso was a renowned historian and educator who made significant contributions to education and scholarship. He served as Provost of the Postgraduate College at Osun State University and was influential in Osun State politics, particularly within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His death has been met with tributes from academics, political leaders, and associates, with many describing it as a major loss to the academic and political communities in Osun State.
