OGITECH Promotes Community Wellness at 4th Annual Health Walk and 10km Marathon

The Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Igbesa, has successfully hosted its 4th Annual Staff Health Walk and 10km students Marathon Race, reaffirming its commitment to the wellbeing of both staff and students. The two-day event took place on Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17, 2026, commencing from the institute’s main gate.

Speaking during the event, the Rector, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, reiterated the institution’s dedication to promoting a healthy academic community. He emphasized that staff and students' health remains a top priority, noting that a productive institution is built on the foundation of a healthy workforce.

Dr. Oluseye explained that the initiative was designed to encourage physical fitness, foster healthy living habits, and strengthen unity across the institution. He also revealed that medical screening for staff formed a key part of the year's programme, aimed at promoting routine medical checks, early detection of potential health concerns, and overall wellness.

The Director of Sports, Architect Olalekan Oginni, highlighted the importance of regular physical activity in reducing stress and improving workplace productivity. He commended the institute’s Management for its consistent support of staff-and student-focused initiatives.

Also speaking, the institute’s Medical Director, Dr. Olumide Tomiwa Ogunjobi, stressed the value of routine medical examinations, which play a crucial role in preventing serious illnesses through early diagnosis.

The health walk saw full participation from both academic and non-academic staff, while students actively took part in the 10km marathon race. The route extended from the institute’s gate to a major roundabout within the host community, with participants returning to campus in a spirited and energetic mood.

The OGITECH Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshal, under the coordination of Engr. Adelakun, also lent their full support in traffic control and ensuring the safety of participants.

Participants commended the Directorate of Sports and the institution’s Management for sustaining the initiative, which serves to promote wellness, unity, and boost staff morale.

The annual health walk and marathon stands out as one of OGITECH’s flagship welfare programmes, reflecting its enduring commitment to the health and wellbeing of its community.
