Ogun State Students Association Calls for Inter-Ethnic Harmony and Cultural Integration

The National Association of Ogun State Students Association (NAGOSSA) has advocated for peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnicities residing in Ogun State. This call for harmony was made during the 2023 Omo Ogun Day ceremony, themed 'The role of culture in people from mixed origin,' held at the Lagos State University Science and Technology in Ikorodu.

Dr. Oladimeji Akinola, Principal of Topdeal College in Ikorodu, delivered a poignant message emphasizing the importance of fostering acceptance of various cultures and promoting knowledge sharing for development and progress. He addressed the prevalent issue of ethnic discrimination in Nigeria, highlighting the internal divisions that exist even within states like Ogun.

Dr. Akinola stated, "How to infuse various cultures is one of the problems facing Nigeria today. Ethnic discrimination has prevailed in our polity today. Apart from this major discrimination, there is internal discrimination. In Ogun State, for example, we have different tribes, and if you get to the state house today, you will be hearing Egba has governed for four years; it is Ijebu's or Yewa's turn. We should not let our ethnicity determine our future. Irrespective of your tribe or origin, let's embrace and tolerate each other in love. We need to promote cultural peace, love, and knowledge among ourselves. We are one."

Azeez Ogunyemi, an alumnus of LASUTECH, echoed these sentiments by celebrating Ogun State's rich heritage and its numerous accomplished individuals. He highlighted that Ogun State is a land of opportunity, with illustrious figures such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Adewale Ayuba, and Olamide, the Afrobeat singer, hailing from the state.

The event served as a platform for unity and cultural appreciation, aiming to strengthen the bonds among Ogun State's diverse population. The call for inter-ethnic harmony and cultural integration resonates with the broader goal of fostering a more united and prosperous Nigeria, where diversity is celebrated as a source of strength and enrichment.
