Oko Poly Rector Warns Staff Against Extorting and Victimising Students

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has restated her administration’s zero tolerance for extortion and victimisation of students by lecturers, warning that any staff member caught engaging in such acts will face severe punishment.

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has restated her administration’s zero tolerance for extortion and victimisation of students by lecturers, warning that any staff member caught engaging in such acts will face severe punishment.

She urged lecturers to treat students as their own children and to desist from any form of harassment or exploitation.

She also announced a ban on the collection of tractor licence fees in the Department of Agricultural Engineering, citing cases of abuse.

Dr. Awuzie made these remarks when the School of Engineering paid her a courtesy visit in her office. She called for the judicious use of the institution’s facilities and urged staff to protect them from damage. She further condemned the actions of some staff members who allegedly collaborate with outsiders to tarnish the Polytechnic’s image, advising them to change course and work together for the institution’s progress.

According to her, peace has returned to the Polytechnic, and all hands should be on deck to sustain it. She assured the visitors that her administration has the institution’s best interest at heart and will continue to work for its growth and development.

Earlier, the Dean of the School of Engineering Technology, Engr. Dr. Anthony Umeozokwere, who led the delegation, congratulated Dr. Awuzie on her appointment as substantive Rector and pledged their support. He also informed her about the School of Engineering Conference scheduled for August 14–15, 2025.
