The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), spearheaded by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has awarded scholarships to 200 university students. The recipients will pursue their studies at the African School of Economics, affiliated with Princeton University, USA, under the AUDA-NEPAD/African School of Economics/RHI Scholarship program.

The scholarship unveiling took place at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Abuja. During the event, Senator Tinubu emphasized the administration of President Bola Tinubu's commitment to education, highlighting various policies and programs aimed at improving the sector.

Senator Tinubu noted that the President’s administration is focusing on enhancing education through zero-interest student loans, bursaries, scholarships, and infrastructure development. She mentioned that last year, the RHI's National Scholarship Programme (RHI-NASP) awarded N1,000,000 per annum for four years and provided laptops to students in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The second tranche of these payments is scheduled for September 2024.

The First Lady also highlighted her ongoing efforts to promote the education and empowerment of the Nigerian girl-child, who historically has had less access to formal education. This initiative has led to the establishment of Alternative High Schools for Girls across Nigeria.

Education Minister Prof. Tahir Mamman praised Senator Tinubu for her dedication to education and announced that the Ministry will support her efforts with an additional 4,000 bursary grants for tertiary students in Nigeria.

Gloria Akobundu, Chief Executive of AUDA-NEPAD in Nigeria, noted that the scholarship recipients will benefit from high-quality education both domestically and internationally. Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Leena Pylvanainen, also expressed Finland's interest in exploring further educational partnerships with the RHI.
