Chief Fidel Onyeneke, The Special Adviser to the Imo Governor on the State Orientation Agency, has admonished the Alumni Association of various institutions to make frantic contributions that would further enhance the standard of education in the country.

Chief Onyeneke made the appeal in Owerri, while addressing the members of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede-Owerri, Alumni Association, during their Award Presentation Day.

He said that the provision of modern learning facilities including, laboratories and workshops, should not be left for the government alone.

Chief Onyeneke stressed that people needed to show more interest in the growth of their Alma-mata, as deliberate effort to pay back for the personal knowledge they acquired.

The Special Adviser called for the establishment of Foundations and Endowments, in order to raise funds for the improvement of such Institutions.

He also emphasized that the burden of running the institutions as stipulated in the appropriate rules and regulations, should be of great concern to the Alumni.

Chief Onyeneke therefore urged them to work out modalities for advocacy and the engagement of students and youths, with a view to changing their negative attitudes, including cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.

He commended the Alumni Association for their role in ensuring peace and development in the Society through their professional input in the various sectors of the Nation’s economy.

The President of the Association, Engr O .O. Mong, in his speech, expressed the determination of the Association to embark on projects that would be of immense benefit to the Devolopment of the Youths.

The highpoint of the event was the presentation of award to prominent individuals who had made remarkable contributions to their field of human endeavor.

Chief Onyeneke was honoured with an award for his excellence in the Journalism Profession.
