The University of Ilesa has received a major boost following the approval of over ₦3 billion in outstanding staff allowances and the conversion of more than 300 workers from temporary to permanent employment status by the Osun State Government.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, disclosed the development during a press briefing held at the institution on Wednesday.
According to Prof. Asaolu, the intervention approved by Ademola Adeleke has restored industrial harmony within the institution and significantly improved operational stability.
The vice-chancellor said the university had witnessed rapid transformation across academic, infrastructural, and administrative sectors within three years of its establishment.
University of Ilesa was officially established in April 2023 following the upgrade of the former Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, into a full-fledged university.
Prof. Asaolu described the institution’s initial condition as challenging, citing deteriorating infrastructure, outdated facilities, low staff morale, and a student population of fewer than 1,000 at inception.

“The situation posed serious challenges to our take-off, but today, we have a good story to tell,” the vice-chancellor stated.
He revealed that the university currently operates 97 academic programmes approved by the National Universities Commission across several disciplines, including Law, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Optometry, Chinese Studies, and Special Education.
According to him, 40 of the programmes have already secured full accreditation status from the commission, a development he described as a significant achievement for a relatively new institution.
Prof. Asaolu also disclosed that the university had received approval to commence its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme, pending final clearance.
The latest developments are expected to strengthen the university’s expansion drive and reinforce efforts by the state government to reposition higher education institutions in Osun State.
