Oyo State Government Disburses Relief Loan to 96 Students
The first phase of the interest-free loan distribution took place at the Iresa Adu Town Hall, Iresa Adu, catering to both undergraduate and postgraduate students across various tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The Oyo State government has initiated the disbursement of students' relief loans, benefitting approximately 96 indigenes of Iresa Adu in Surulere local government area. The first phase of the interest-free loan distribution took place at the Iresa Adu Town Hall, Iresa Adu, catering to both undergraduate and postgraduate students across various tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, flagged off the disbursement by presenting symbolic cheques to the first set of beneficiaries. The event, attended by top government functionaries including the Permanent Secretary, Oladipo Ajoke, marked a significant step towards easing the financial burden on students.
Adegoke commended the visionary approach of the loan relief pioneer, acknowledging the dedication of Adebayo and his foundation to advancing education. The commissioner highlighted that this initiative aligns with Governor Makinde's sustainable development agenda for education in the state.
He stated, "As a government, it is very clear that Makinde-led administration has continued to achieve new milestones in terms of providing quality education and deliberate committal of resources towards improving the education sector." Adegoke emphasized the administration's commitment by allocating almost a hundred billion naira for education in the 2024 Oyo state budget, surpassing the United Nations' recommended 25 percent of the total budget for education.
