PAAU SUG President Agbo Shaibu Leads Student Leaders to Address Police Harassment and Extortion with New Anyigba DPO

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Comrade Agbo Emmanuel Shaibu, leads a delegation to meet the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Anyigba, Superintendent Cletus Esinulo, over police harassment and extortion concerns.

The President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Comrade Agbo Emmanuel Shaibu, today led a delegation of student leaders to meet with the newly appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Anyigba, Superintendent of Police (SP) Cletus Esinulo, to address rising concerns over police harassment and extortion.

The delegation, which included the NAKOSS President Eboh Hassan, NANS-JCC Vice Chairman Comrade Usman Moshood, SUG Public Relations Officer Comrade Idris Musa, and traditional leaders of the student community, such as the Students’ Attah Igala, Ohinoyi, and Kaba monarchs, engaged in a constructive dialogue with the DPO.

During the meeting, Comrade Shaibu raised alarming issues related to unauthorized phone searches and the invasion of student hostels by police officers. He emphasized the need for reforms to rebuild students' trust in the police and safeguard their privacy and dignity.

SP Cletus Esinulo assured the delegation of his firm commitment to addressing these concerns. He firmly stated, “No officer should invade students’ privacy. I have already warned my men, and I will rewarn them to strictly adhere to this directive.” Esinulo reiterated his desire to change the narrative of policing in Anyigba, fostering a more cooperative relationship with the student body.

In their contributions, Comrade Moshood and Eboh Hassan echoed the need for better communication and mutual respect between students and police officers. Senior officers including ASP Friday Shaibu (DCO), ASP Stephen Edegbo (DTO), ASP Ibrahim Abdullahi (ALO), and others were also present at the meeting, where they urged students to abide by the law to foster a peaceful environment.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both the police and student leaders promising to collaborate closely to ensure that incidents of harassment and extortion are prevented, while building mutual understanding and respect.
