Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) gathered leading media professionals, academics, and stakeholders for its second annual Media Roundtable, focusing on the theme: “Beyond Critique: The Importance of Constructive Media Engagement in Governance and Nation-Building.” The event underscored the essential role of the media in shaping societal progress through responsible reporting.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Peter Bamkole, PAU’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Admin), emphasized the need for transparent journalism, noting that "truthful narratives promote constructive engagement rather than negativity."
The roundtable featured an engaging panel discussion, including notable media figures such as Magnus Onyibe, Fisayo Soyombo, Sherriff Quadry, Margaret Agada-Mba, Jonathan James Lyamgohn, and Tolulope Adeleru-Balogun, moderated by Onyinyechi Aderibigbe and Elizabeth Musa.
The panelists addressed topics such as press freedom, the media's responsibility in development, and the ethical challenges facing journalists. Sheriff Quadry highlighted the dedication required in journalism, while Fisayo Soyombo emphasized that "more journalism" is the key to overcoming harassment and threats in the field.
The event concluded with a call for collaboration between the media and government to foster positive change, accountability, and a more informed society. PAU continues to champion initiatives aimed at promoting responsible media engagement in governance across Africa.
