Part-Time Students Donate Parking Tallies to Curb Motorcycle Theft at Nasarawa State University

In a bid to curb the recurring motorcycle thefts on campus, the Part-Time Students Union of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has donated over 4,000 motorcycle parking tallies and registration books to the university management. The donation was presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman, on Friday, 27th September 2024, at the VC's Conference Room.

The President of the Part-Time Students Union, Comrade Nazifi M. Maihakuri, highlighted the union’s concern over the high rate of motorcycle theft, particularly affecting part-time students. He explained that the union’s initiative aims to support the university’s security efforts by issuing parking tallies at strategic locations on campus to enhance security.

While commending the university’s security team for recovering some stolen motorcycles, Comrade Nazifi noted that most of the recovered bikes belonged to part-time students. He also announced that the union has introduced scholarships for underprivileged members to help them continue their studies despite economic challenges.

Receiving the donation, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman praised the Part-Time Students Union for its thoughtful contribution to addressing the theft issue. She acknowledged the ongoing concerns about motorcycle theft on campus, despite recovery efforts, and emphasized that security is a collective responsibility.

Professor Sa'adatu also lauded the union’s scholarship initiative, which she believes will significantly support underprivileged students. She encouraged students to focus on their academic goals and avoid unnecessary protests that could disrupt their studies.

The event concluded with the official presentation of the parking tallies to the Vice-Chancellor.
