Pastor Adeboye Appoints Former UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Professor Toyin Ogundipe, as Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has appointed Professor Toyin Ogundipe, the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, as the new Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ede. Professor Ogundipe succeeds Pastor Ezekiel Odeyemi, the Assistant General Overseer in charge of Training and Education at RCCG.

The reconstituted Governing Council of Redeemer's University includes distinguished scholars and professionals such as Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, Vice-Chancellor; Professor Ahmed Parker Yerima, Deputy Vice-Chancellor; Professor Olalere Gabriel Adeyemi and Professor Christian T. Happi, representing the University Senate; Professor Idowu Odebode, representing the University Congregation; and others from academia, business, and legal sectors. The council is tasked with steering the university’s growth and academic excellence.

Born on May 31, 1960, Professor Ogundipe has a long and illustrious academic career. He earned his first degree in Botany from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1984, followed by a Master’s and PhD in Botany from the same institution. Over the years, he has undergone advanced training at prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, and the University of Johannesburg, among others. His research focuses on Molecular Plant Taxonomy, Biosystematics, and Ecological Conservation, with over 90 publications in accredited academic journals.

Throughout his career, Professor Ogundipe has held various administrative positions, including head of the Department of Botany, dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, and director of the Academic Planning Unit. In November 2017, he was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, a position he held until November 2022, introducing reforms and fostering collaborations.

With his appointment as Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Professor Ogundipe is expected to bring his wealth of experience in academic leadership and research to further strengthen the institution’s position as a leading university in Nigeria. He is married and blessed with children.
