Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti (FPA) Alumni Association, expressed deep concern over the extensive damage caused to their alma mater by a severe rainstorm. The alumni association emphasized the need for the government to equip polytechnics with modern facilities.

The National President of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti (FPA) Alumni Association have expressed deep concern over the extensive damage caused to their alma mater by a severe rainstorm.

 Speaking at a recent press conference held in Ado Ekiti, Dr Oyedokun Abiodun the National President of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti (FPA) Alumni Association, revealed that the damage to the institution’s facilities is estimated to be worth several millions of naira.

He expressed relief that no lives were lost during the incident, but noted the intensity of the storm, stating, “The storm was so strong that some buildings were almost pulled down.”

The incident has raised serious concerns about the state of infrastructure in the institution and the need for urgent intervention. The alumni president seized the opportunity to call on the Federal Government to take immediate action.

Dr Abiodun emphasized the need for the government to equip polytechnics with modern facilities. He pointed out that practical training, which polytechnic graduates are known for, requires adequate and up-to-date equipment.

He also called for increased funding to the institutions to enable them to recover and reposition themselves for the future. “The practical training that polytechnic products are known for requires modern equipment. We call on the Federal Government to provide these facilities and increase funding to the institutions to help them reposition,” he said.

The incident underscores the vulnerability of educational institutions to natural disasters and highlights the need for adequate preparedness and infrastructure development. It is hoped that the government will heed the call of the alumni association and take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the continuity of quality education in the country
