In a remarkable feat, 75-year-old Rebecca Inge from Raleigh, North Carolina, fulfilled her lifelong dream by graduating from Shaw University in the United States, 57 years after initially leaving her college education. Making history as the oldest graduate in both her class and the institution, Rebecca shared her inspiring journey to earning her degree.

Rebecca commenced her college education at Shaw University in 1965, working in the college's cafeteria to support her financial needs while pursuing her studies. Despite facing challenges, she expressed joy and fulfillment at finally achieving a goal that had eluded her for over five decades.

"It feels wonderful to finally achieve a goal I have been wanting for so many years. It’s taken me over 50 years to finally get back to my school, Shaw University, the school I love," Rebecca stated.

Her dream of attending medical school and becoming a surgeon was put on hold when she got married and became a mother. Despite having to drop out, she ventured into various careers, including working as a bank teller, contributing to fire and safety prevention at Walt Disney World, and engaging in real estate. Throughout this time, Rebecca remained a devoted mother.

Rebecca's daughter, Marisa Ratliff Dunston, a retired U.S. military officer, acknowledged her mother's sacrifices and support. "She put her life on hold so that I could finish my 21 years, all of my education so that I could be successful today," Marisa expressed.

Upon her father's passing, Rebecca decided to resume her interrupted academic journey. Despite facing challenges due to the significant year gap, she re-enrolled at Shaw University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Religion and Philosophy.

Rebecca credited her daughter for providing crucial support during this educational pursuit. She highlighted the excitement of finally owning a degree and encouraged others to pursue their passions, emphasizing the importance of finding happiness in one's pursuits.
