Redeemer’s University Students Lead Innovation with Development of Web-Based SIWES Portal
Redeemer’s University (RUN), Ede, has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation, excellence, and student-driven solutions with the successful development of a web-based Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Portal by final-year students of the Department of Computer Science.
The revolutionary initiative, executed under the supervision of Dr Tobore Igbe in collaboration with the Directorate of SIWES, represents a major step forward in Redeemer’s University’s drive to leverage technology for efficient academic administration and service delivery.
The newly developed portal is designed to digitise and streamline the management of SIWES activities, providing a robust, centralised platform for students, supervisors, and administrators. Key features of the system include centralised student registration, a digital logbook, and efficient data management, all aimed at eliminating the inefficiencies associated with manual processes.
Following rigorous testing, the platform has proven to be fully functional and effective. The development team had the honour of presenting the project to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, who commended the initiative and reaffirmed the University’s readiness to adopt the solution once intellectual property considerations are resolved.
The project team comprises students: Arukhame-Sanusi Timothy Ofueslimi, Ajibola Praise Oluwadamilola, Ilori Elijah Oluwatayemise, and Arigbabuwo Lateefah Omowunmi, alongside their project supervisor, Dr Tobore Igbe. Also contributing to the success of the project are Miss Adebola Adedokun of the SIWES Directorate and the Acting Director of the SIWES Directorate, Dr Olufemi Sanyaolu.

Commending the team’s achievement, Dr Sanyaolu stated, “I am truly impressed by the dedication, foresight, and technical expertise demonstrated by this exceptional team. This achievement marks a major milestone in our commitment to leveraging technology for improved service delivery in the Directorate of SIWES, and I commend the innovative spirit of the team members throughout the project, from conception to implementation.”
Providing further insight into the project, Dr Igbe explained that the motivation behind developing the SIWES portal was to minimise manual processes by providing an integrated web application that enables seamless coordination among students, supervisors, and administrators.
“The development process encompassed requirements analysis, architectural design, coding, integration, performance evaluation, unit and system testing to ensure reliability, scalability, and ease of use,” Igbe explained.
Reflecting on the experience, members of the student team highlighted both the inspiration and impact of the project.
Ilori Elijah noted that his motivation stemmed from the inefficiencies of the traditional paper-based SIWES logbook system, which drove his involvement in the system’s conception and testing in collaboration with the SIWES coordinator to ensure it met all functional requirements.
Arukhame-Sanusi Timothy said, “I was motivated by the inefficiencies of a paper-based SIWES logbook system, which informed my decision to digitise the process, resulting in the development of a web-based logbook management system, achieved through continuous collaboration with the SIWES coordinator. Overall, the experience, from ideation to implementation, was rewarding and fulfilling.”
Ajibola Praise added, “I participated in the conceptualisation of the system, developed key features, integrated essential functionalities, and conducted system testing to ensure that the application met its intended objectives and functional requirements.”
Arigbabuwo Lateefah also shared her perspective, stating, “My goal was to ensure that both students and supervisors could transition seamlessly to the digital platform, making logbook submission and tracking as effortless as possible. Witnessing the project evolve from a simple concept into a fully functional and impactful solution was incredibly rewarding.”
This achievement underscores Redeemer’s University’s strategic focus on producing solution-oriented graduates equipped with the skills and mindset to address real-world challenges, further reinforcing our position as a leading institution in innovation and digital transformation.
