In a significant development, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, a distinguished scholar and a renowned authority in Forestry from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has been appointed as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer's University. The announcement was made by the Board of Trustees of Redeemer's University, led by Pastor Olukayode Pitan. Professor Akindele's appointment is set for a single term of five years.

The decision was the outcome of a rigorous and comprehensive recruitment exercise conducted by a professional recruiting firm and esteemed academics, aligning with the global best practices in selecting individuals for key positions in higher education institutions. Adetunji Adeleye, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs at RUN, made this information public in a statement.

Pastor Olukayode Pitan, while presenting the ratified appointment, emphasized that Professor Akindele's selection is expected to usher in an era of innovation and academic excellence at the institution. Pitan noted that as a scholar of Professor Akindele's caliber, with an outstanding record in higher education and a profound commitment to promoting learning and research, he is poised to leave a lasting impact on both the university and the broader academic community.

Professor Shadrach Akindele's academic journey began at the University of Ibadan, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources Management in 1985. Following the completion of his National Youth Service Corps program, he returned to the same university for postgraduate studies, earning a Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in Forest Biometrics in 1987 and 1990, respectively. His career in academia commenced as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Ibadan in 1987, and in 1988, he joined the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) as an Assistant Lecturer.

During his tenure at FUTA, Professor Akindele climbed the ranks, ultimately achieving the status of a professor in 2005. He also served as a Visiting Professor at the University of British, making invaluable contributions to the field of forestry and higher education. His extensive experience and dedication to academic excellence position him as a valuable asset for Redeemer's University in its pursuit of educational and research excellence.
