Mr. Temitope Olamide Jinadu, a 400-level student of Electrical & Electronics Engineering at the University of Lagos, made history at the IEEE Region 8 Climate Challenge Finals held in Bari, Italy, in November 2024. Jinadu, leading the team "UNILAG-SB," clinched the First Prize in the Disaster-Resilient Communication Track with their innovative project titled "FoodLink: IoT-Based Disaster-Resilient Communication Network."
Jinadu, alongside his teammate Damilare Adeyemo, a Computer Science student from UNILAG, presented their groundbreaking communication network designed to aid disaster relief efforts in flood-prone areas. The IoT-based network operates independently of the GSM network, offering a sustainable and affordable solution for affected communities to connect with relief teams in times of crisis.
Team UNILAG-SB was one of the few teams selected from Africa, standing out as one of two teams from Nigeria, alongside a group from the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Their success at the competition underscores the innovative spirit and academic excellence at UNILAG.
On behalf of the entire university community, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, extended her heartfelt congratulations to Temitope Olamide Jinadu and Damilare Adeyemo, applauding their achievement for bringing pride to the University of Lagos and Nigeria.
