Reps Call for Urgent Release of 30 Abducted Zamfara Varsity Students
This call to action came as a result of a motion under matters of urgent public importance, presented by Hon. Kabiru Ahmadu from Zamfara state.During the debate, Hon. Ahmadu expressed deep concern over the fate of the abducted female students and condemned the heinous acts of the bandits who continue to terrorize citizens in the Northwest region.
The House of Representatives has issued a plea to security agencies, urging them to secure the release of the remaining 30 female students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State who are still in the custody of their abductors.

The House of Representatives, through this motion, has implored the Chief of Defense Staff and the Inspector General of Police to take immediate action to secure the safe return of the abducted students. Relevant committees in the House will be tasked with ensuring compliance.Another representative, Hon. Inuwa Garba, emphasized the distressing nature of the situation, highlighting the threat that bandits pose to academic institutions, particularly in Northern Nigeria.
To tackle this menace and ensure the safety of girl child education, Hon. Inuwa Garba appealed to the northern governors, urging them to convene a high-stakes meeting.Hon. Bappa Misau pointed out the widespread occurrence of such abductions in various parts of Northern Nigeria and called for increased proactivity by security agencies. He strongly discouraged treating bandits leniently.

Hon. Etabnabene Ben proposed the establishment of state and community policing to identify and eliminate local bandits. Furthermore, he advocated for local government autonomy, allowing chairmen and councilors to serve as chief security officers at the grassroots level.This motion was put to a vote, adopted, and subsequently referred to the committees on Legislative Compliance, Defence, Army, Airforce, and Police for further action.
