Research Key to National Development, Says UI Deputy Vice-Chancellor at RESDEV Fair Committee Visit

He made this call while receiving members of the University of Ibadan Research and Development Fair (RESDEV) Committee, who paid a courtesy visit on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olapegba highlighted the need for collaboration among scholars from diverse institutions to foster research that can contribute to Nigeria's progress. He commended the RESDEV Committee for their commitment and dedication to advancing research at the university, describing their efforts as essential to achieving the institution’s research mandate.
Professor Olapegba encouraged the Committee to engage with the media and utilize digital platforms to promote the university's research outcomes. He also recommended inviting companies and industries to future research fairs to attract sponsorship and boost university funding. Additionally, he suggested enhancing the monetary awards for excellence in research to motivate faculty members further.
Chairman of the UI RESDEV Fair Committee, Professor A. O. Fadoju, expressed gratitude to the university’s management for their support and reaffirmed the Committee’s commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry. He highlighted the success of the 2023 UI RESDEV Fair, where exceptional research from various faculties was recognized with awards.

2nd Place: Multidisciplinary Studies (₦200,000)
3rd Place: UI School of Business (₦150,000)
Science Category:
1st Place: Faculty of Environmental Design and Management (₦250,000)
2nd Place: Faculty of Technology (₦200,000)
3rd Place: Faculty of Science (₦150,000)
The annual RESDEV Fair, held in partnership with the DAWN Commission, seeks to bridge the gap between “town and gown” and is exploring additional collaboration with TETFUND. The theme for the upcoming 2024 RESDEV Fair is "Re-Focusing Research and Innovation Towards Scaling-Up Nigerian Brands for Commercial Value."
