Rotary Club of Abuja Revamps LEA Primary School in Kungabokun, Donates Bus Stop to Kubwa Community
The Rotary Club of Abuja, Kubwa, has renovated three classrooms at LEA Primary School in Kungabokun, a rural community in the FCT, and donated a new bus stop to the Kubwa Phase 3 area.
The Rotary Club of Abuja, Kubwa has breathed new life into LEA Primary School, Kungabokun, with the commissioning of a renovated block of three classrooms. Located in the rural community of Kungabokun, a satellite town within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the school had suffered from dilapidated infrastructure, rendering its learning environment unsuitable for pupils.
The renovation, completed in two months, aligns with Rotary International's mission to support education and community development. The Rotary Club also extended its philanthropic efforts by donating a new bus stop to the Phase 3 area of Kubwa Satellite Town, providing shelter for commuters against harsh weather conditions.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Rotarian Idowu Olayemi, President of the Rotary Club of Abuja, Kubwa, highlighted the club’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and uplifting the standard of living in the community. She noted that the renovated classrooms would offer a more conducive learning atmosphere, enabling students to focus on their studies and fostering academic growth.
“We recognize that education is a transformative tool and should not be compromised, even in challenging economic times. We are optimistic that this development will inspire both students and parents to prioritize quality education,” Olayemi remarked.
The project was commissioned by District 9127 Governor, Rotarian Mike Nwanoshiri, who praised the club’s dedication to enhancing education and addressing community needs. He emphasized that the renovated classrooms and new bus stop would make a significant impact, particularly for the school children and road users in the area.
Traditional ruler of the community, Chief Ishaya Gabaya, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club for its continued support. “The renovated classrooms will encourage more children to remain in school, and we are thankful for the contributions of Rotary Abuja, Kubwa. Their efforts have greatly benefited our community,” Chief Gabaya stated.
The choice of Kungabokun as the beneficiary community was informed by the Rotary Club's longstanding commitment to the area, having previously undertaken other developmental projects. The bus stop, designed to offer comfort to road users in all weather conditions, is expected to alleviate the inconveniences faced by commuters in the busy Kubwa Phase 3 area.
Rotarian Olayemi further reiterated the importance of community involvement in sustaining the projects, urging residents to take ownership and maintain the facilities for long-term benefits.
