Held on September 13, 2024, the event saw over 100 trees planted on the university campus, marking a collaborative effort to promote green spaces and environmental stewardship.
The initiative, part of a broader Rotary program focused on conservation, involved members of the Rotary Club, Aletheia University students, and faculty. The trees, including various native species, were chosen for their adaptability to the local ecosystem and their potential to enhance the campus’s ecological and aesthetic value.
The day began with an opening ceremony where Mr. Osinubi, past president of the Rotary Club of Ago Iwoye Metropolitan, shared insights into Rotary’s environmental goals. Princess Adenike Tolufari, another past president, elaborated on Rotary’s impact and mission.
Prof. Amos Onasanya, Vice Chancellor of Aletheia University, underscored the vital role of trees in combating climate change, improving air quality, and providing habitats for wildlife. He also stressed the importance of educational institutions in spearheading community-based environmental initiatives.
Major Gen. Sansadeen Adebanjo Awosanya praised the Rotary Club’s efforts and encouraged students to embrace the initiative as part of their educational experience. He advised them to approach the project with discipline and to seize the opportunity for practical learning.
