Rotary Clubs Donate Textbooks and Borehole to Schools in Ibadan

On September 19, 2024, the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Ring Road, in partnership with Rotary Clubs from Cotonou, donated French textbooks and a borehole to Bashorun Ogunmola High School and Queens School in Ibadan.

In a notable humanitarian effort, the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Ring Road, in collaboration with Rotary Clubs from Cotonou, District 9126 and 9103, has made a significant contribution to secondary schools in Ibadan, Oyo State. On Tuesday, the clubs donated French language textbooks and a borehole to Bashorun Ogunmola High School and Queens School, Apata.

The initiative was a long-anticipated project, as disclosed by Bolade Ipadeola, President of the Rotary Club of Ibadan-Ring Road. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Since the beginning of this year, we’ve been determined to collaborate with another district, and we are thrilled to see it come to fruition.”

The collaboration involved a diverse group of Rotary Clubs from Cotonou, including RC E Concordia, RC de Godomey, RC de Cotonou Lagune, RC de Cotonou Cocotiers, RC de Cotonou Etoile, RC de Cotonou Rive Gauche, RC de Cotonou NEXUS, RC E-Club de Empowerment, RC de Cotonou Ifê, RC de Cotonou Passeport les Diplomates, RC de Parakou, RC de Cotonou Marina, RC Abomey Calavi, RCC SIKE COLOMBE, RC de Cotonou le Nautile, and RC Natitingou-Tanguieta.

The Rotary Clubs conducted a needs assessment at Queens School, Apata, revealing a significant challenge: students had to travel long distances within the school to access water. In response, the Rotary Clubs funded the installation of a borehole to address this issue, aligning with Rotary’s focus on providing clean water.

Additionally, Bashorun Ogunmola High School received French textbooks for JSS1-JSS3 students. This donation was inspired by the collaboration with French-speaking Rotary Clubs and aims to improve students' proficiency in French.

The project also included a tree-planting initiative at both schools to promote environmental sustainability and improve air quality.

Mrs. Kikelomo Adigun, representing State Commissioner for Education Professor Salihu Adelabu, commended the Rotary Clubs for their generous contributions, noting that the donations align with Oyo State Governor Mr. Seyi Makinde’s vision to position the state as a leader in educational development.

Principals from both beneficiary schools, Mrs. Ogunshina Aderonke of Queens School and Mrs. Oluokun Abosede Olawunmi of Bashorun Ogunmola High School, expressed their gratitude. They affirmed that the donations would significantly impact students’ learning experiences and address pressing needs.
