The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) held its first-ever Teaching Practice Summit on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Oto/Ijanikin main campus. The summit, attended by key stakeholders in the education sector, aimed to prepare students for their upcoming teaching practice as the institution transitions into a full-fledged university.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Dr. Daodu Morufu Adedayo, emphasized the summit’s purpose of clarifying the expectations of the teaching practice exercise. He advised students to engage actively by asking questions and seeking clarifications to ensure they are well-prepared for their fieldwork.

Dr. Daodu also praised the Vice-Chancellor for her leadership and commitment to advancing LASUED's goals. He highlighted the institution's dedication to producing well-equipped educators ready to meet the challenges of the teaching profession.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, who represented the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Sule Tolani Akibu, stressed the importance of the teaching practice in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. He noted that this exercise provides an essential opportunity for students to address real-world classroom challenges.

Dr. Foluke Abimbola Akinkuotu, Acting Director of the Directorate of Teaching Practice at LASUED, described teaching practice as the cornerstone of teacher education. She highlighted that the summit would offer students a platform to learn, lead, and collaborate on innovative solutions to enhance their teaching experiences.

This landmark event sets the stage for LASUED's first cohort of student teachers to embark on their teaching practice with confidence and practical insights.
