In a groundbreaking lecture at the College of Medicine, the University of Lagos, Dr. Ibrahim Wada, OON, identified artificial procreation, specifically In Vitro Gametogenesis (IVG), and the utilization of xenobots—stem cells aided by Artificial Intelligence—as the future of fertility and family planning. The 5th Abimbola Aina Omololu-Mulele Annual Lecture, held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, delved into the evolution of human procreation, emphasizing the need for research efforts to address complex fertility issues.

The lecture, titled "Mankind’s Journey to a New Age of Artificial Procreation and Family Planning," acknowledged the pioneering efforts of Emeritus Professor Osato Giwa-Oagie and Professor Oladapo Ashiru in Human In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) in Nigeria. Dr. Wada highlighted IVG as an advancement over IVF and underscored the potential of xenobots as a revolutionary breakthrough in the field.

Addressing the audience, Dr. Wada discussed the benefits and concerns surrounding the ethical and legal implications of these new technologies in artificial procreation and family planning. He urged youths to capitalize on their prime fertility windows for childbearing, while also expressing confidence in the ability of these paradigms to address natural fertility barriers such as menopause in women or azoospermia in men.
