A serious allegation of sexual harassment has emerged from Federal University Oye-Ekiti, as a final-year student from the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies has accused her lecturer, Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia, of failing her due to her refusal of his sexual advances. The student's father has formally lodged a complaint with the university, demanding an investigation into the matter.

The student claims that Dr. Agbegbedia repeatedly pursued her throughout her academic tenure, beginning from her third year. According to her account, he made several propositions and pressured her to meet him in Ado-Ekiti, which she consistently declined. The harassment reportedly began in the first semester of her 300-Level courses and continued through her final year.

In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, dated August 20, 2024, the student's father detailed the harassment and the impact it had on his daughter's academic performance. He stated that his daughter was unjustly failed in her course, PCS 411, after rejecting Agbegbedia's advances. The letter also expressed concerns that she might be similarly penalized in her subsequent course, PCS 414.

The father has demanded a thorough investigation and has threatened legal action if the issue is not addressed promptly. He has requested the Vice-Chancellor's intervention to ensure his daughter’s academic progress and graduation are not compromised.

Dr. Agbegbedia, when contacted by SaharaReporters, dismissed the allegations as an attempt at blackmail. He insisted that he has never used his position to coerce students and suggested that the accusations might be unfounded. He also noted that the university’s marking procedures include an external review process, which students can request if they dispute their grades.

Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, confirmed receipt of the complaint and assured that the matter is under investigation. He stated that a panel has been established to address the allegations and emphasized the university's commitment to due process. The Vice-Chancellor assured that the investigation will be conducted transparently and that both parties will be heard before any decisions are made.
