Sheriff Shagaya Donates N250 Million for Advanced Burn Care Unit at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital

Sheriff Shagaya has donated over N250 million to create the Batuli Ajiferuke Shagaya Burn Intensive Care Unit at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, enhancing burn care for Nigeria and West Africa.

Sheriff Shagaya Donates N250 Million for Advanced Burn Care Unit at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital

Sheriff Shagaya, son of prominent businesswoman and socialite Bola Shagaya, has donated over N250 million to establish the Batuli Ajiferuke Shagaya Burn Intensive Care Unit (BAS-BICU) at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Kwara State. 

Named in honor of his grandmother, Batuli Ajiferuke Shagaya, who succumbed to burn injuries, the BAS-BICU aims to provide comprehensive care for various types of burn injuries, including chemical, electrical, friction, and radiation burns.

The state-of-the-art facility features ten intensive care rooms, two fully equipped operating theatres, recovery rooms with advanced monitoring and respiratory equipment, a laboratory with auto analysers, blood bank services, a physiotherapy unit, and a seminar room with teleconference capabilities. This new unit is set to enhance the management and recovery of burn patients not only within Nigeria but across West Africa.

In a statement, Shagaya emphasized the need for collective efforts to bridge gaps in healthcare provision, highlighting that philanthropy is a shared responsibility alongside government efforts. He underscored that this donation reflects his commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes for those in need.

Sheriff Shagaya, an Economics graduate from the University of Bradford, is known for his involvement in the oil and gas sector and his role in the Salman Shagaya Foundation, which focuses on humanitarian support and human capital development. His contribution to UITH marks a significant advancement in the care of burn injuries, promising a new level of specialized treatment for affected patients.
