Sixteen staff members of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have been awarded grants by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to support their research projects.

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has announced that sixteen of its staff members have been awarded grants by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to support their research projects. The grants were part of the 85 research proposals selected for funding in the 2023 Grant Cycle after a rigorous screening process.

Initiated in March 2023, the screening process involved the evaluation of 4,287 concept notes submitted by potential applicants. Among the recipients of the grants are prominent faculty members from various departments within the university.

The recipients and the respective amounts awarded to them are as follows:

- Oyebanji Bukola Olanike: N26,814,275.02

- Olaposi Titilayo Olubunmi: N9,831,900.84

- Adeboye Omotayo Babawande: N22,345,229.19

- Akinlo Olayinka: N35,000,000.00

- Olasunkanmi Lukman Olawale: N22,345,229.19

- Alimi Taiwo Taiwo: N35,752,366.70

- Oke Adekola Olayinka: N26,635,513.19

- Odetunde Marufat Oluyemisi: N24,861,736.38

- Atere Cornelius Talade: N24,132,847.52

- Rahaman Moruf Aderele Omar: N35,752,366.70

- Idowu Peter Adebayo: N34,500,000

- Ige Oladeji Oluremi: N38,500,000

- Kehinde Temitope: N26,224,360.97

On Friday, March 8, 2024, a presentation ceremony was held to honor ten out of the sixteen staff members whose proposals were approved by the TETFUND National Research Fund. These recipients received 60% of the total grant allocated to the university.

During the ceremony, Dr. Oyebanji Bukola Olanike, Prof. Oluwajobi Akinjide, Dr. Agbalajobi Damilola, Dr. Atere Cornelius, Dr. Adeboye Omotayo, Dr. Salawu Mary, Dr. Oladeji Oluremi, Prof. Idowu Peter, Dr. Olasunkanmi Lukman, and Dr. Olaposi Titilayo were acknowledged as Principal Investigators (PIs) and received letters on behalf of their teams.

Prof. Akanni I. Akinyemi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development, congratulated the grant recipients during the ceremony. He emphasized the importance of upholding research ethics and principles while pursuing excellence in their respective fields. Prof. Yinka Akinlo, the Chairperson of the TETFUND Office at Obafemi Awolowo University, also extended congratulations to the beneficiaries and offered guidance on navigating the research process.

The ceremony was attended by notable university officials, including Prof. Akanni I. Akinyemi and Prof. Yinka Akinlo, as well as the ten Principal Investigators who received the initial tranche of the grant.
