Skyline University Nigeria students conduct Geophysical Field Work

The students of the geology department at Skyline University Nigeria (SUN) have conducted geophysical fieldwork on the university campus.

The activity was done by level 300 students under the close supervision of Dr. Abdallah M. Ali, a visiting lecturer in the department.

Dr. Ali emphasized that practical activities are important facets that increase students’ expertise and skill acquisition in the geology field of study and other careers. He admitted that it also provides an opportunity for the students to network and collaborate for ideation and innovation.

The equipment used during the activity are Ohmega resistivity meter, an ADMT NEF detector, and a GER water detector. The students were taught the working operations and different components of each piece of equipment.

Also, they were exposed to the rudimentary knowledge of field set-up and gridding. Each student was passed through the procedure of field data acquisition in terms of field layout, arrangement of electrodes in the field, and data collection.

Students who participated in the activity expressed their utmost satisfaction and knowledge gained throughout the session.
