Sokoto State Government Invests N4.7 Billion in External Examination Fees

The Sokoto State Government has announced that it has spent N4.7 billion to register students from the state for external examinations over the past two years.

The examinations covered include the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), National Examinations Council (NECO), and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The state government covered fees for WASSCE, NECO, and UTME, ensuring students' participation in these critical assessments.

The significant investment demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting education and alleviating financial burdens on students and their families.

The state government also provides N200,000 monthly imprest to secondary school principals for school maintenance and other needs, totaling approximately N66 million.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmed Ala, highlighted the government's dedication to boosting enrollment and retention in basic education. The government has also increased teachers' salaries to the national minimum wage of N70,000, up from N20,000, to motivate educators and improve the quality of education .
