Professor Armaya’u Bichi, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, has accused some university staff of collaborating with bandits, facilitating attacks within the institution.

In an interview with newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday, Prof Bichi expressed deep concern over the alleged involvement of university staff in providing information to bandits. He disclosed that investigations had identified suspects among the university's personnel who were believed to be aiding the criminal activities.

"We have investigated those suspected of divulging information about their colleagues and students to bandits, and we have forwarded their details to the appropriate security agencies for further scrutiny," Prof Bichi stated, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Despite these actions, the Vice-Chancellor lamented the lack of response from security agencies regarding the suspects. He emphasized the seriousness of the accusations, highlighting the internal challenges faced by the university due to the alleged collaboration.

Responding to the allegations, the Katsina State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, acknowledged the issue and assured the public of ongoing investigations. He urged citizens to assist law enforcement with any pertinent information to enhance security measures.

There has been previously documented multiple incidents of bandit attacks at FUDMA, including the recent tragic killing of Dr. Tiri Gyan David, Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development. The bandits also abducted two of his children, demanding a ransom of N300 million for their release.

The incident occurred at Dr. David's residence in Yarima Quarters, Dutsinma Local Government Area, underscoring the escalating security challenges faced by educational institutions in northern Nigeria.
