Student Loan Scandal, Minister Emergency Meeting with VCs Postponed

A scheduled meeting between the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and 51 Vice-Chancellors of tertiary institutions accused of misappropriating student loan disbursements has been postponed.

The meeting aimed to address concerns over alleged unauthorized deductions, double institutional fees collection, and refusal to refund students who had already received loans.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has initiated a probe into alleged irregularities and corruption surrounding the student loan process. Preliminary findings suggest that while N100bn loans were released, only N28.8bn reached applicants, leaving N71.2bn unaccounted for. A new date for the meeting will be announced in due course.
