Students Granted N50m Bail After Allegedly Stealing N1.9bn from MTN Nigeria

On Monday, a Federal High Court in Lagos granted N50 million bail each to two students, Timothy Oluwabukola of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and Anthony Odemerho of Resign Regal Academy.

The students were arraigned by the Police Special Fraud Unit on multiple charges, including conspiracy, unauthorized access to a company's web-based platform, and unlawful conversion.

The police prosecution counsel, Justine Enang, presented the case, stating that the defendants, along with others still at large, committed these offenses between January and April 2024. Oluwabukola and Odemerho, allegedly hacked into MTN's Application Programming Interface (API) and stole N1.9 billion worth of airtime and data.

The court proceedings revealed that the crimes were committed in Lagos and Edo states. The case continues as investigations are ongoing.
